‘For me, Europe means that goals which appear to be unattainable for individuals can be achieved as a community. This is also the reason why I got involved in promoting EU issues. I started working for together.eu as part of an Erasmus+ Youth Exchange in 2019.
ROOF — ROUTES OF OUR FUTURE made some miracles possible: more than 80 wonderful people from 14 different countries came together to cycle through regions they had never visited before, in order to show that young people are interested in a future of solidarity and celebration of diversity (both cultural and gender diversity), that a mindful interaction with nature is important for the sustainability of the EU, and that the use of one’s voice is a special boon which can be given particular weight when a community comes together.
The EU is a motley crew, where one thing is sure to happen and that is exchange. People interact with each other, building mutual trust and really perceiving each other. I feel inspired when the interaction of many people serves to further the common good, while at the same time boosting the rights of each individual. In a community, you push yourself to the limit, getting to know yourself – and others in the community – in a special way.
In this regard, Sport also has a particular role to play in society, reflecting as it does society’s structures, norms and values. I think that practising sport can strengthen a sense of cohesion across nations, with different groups of people being able to make their voices heard, increasing their visibility. This type of interaction needs to be strengthened in Europe, fostering intercultural exchange and raising awareness of the diversity of what it means to be human in the context of sport.’
